My next project will be based around the new sci-fi rules, I will be following the combat missions of a Foreign Legion outfit

The final scene

The Chirpers are returned to Avios where they are reunited with the rest of the clan, as a reward Rubin and the crew are given some old Gold coins that have strange images on, after saying their goodbyes the crew fly back to Garner, collect their passenger and after several jumps arrive at Rhylanor where Rubin musters out.

Scene 6

The lift takes the cre to several levels on the station but it looks abandoned, then at the top level they step out into the main laboritory complex where they encounter an animal handling bot that tries to sedate them, a quick burt of fire soon disables it.

Moving on the crew are attacked by a security bot, Doc Smith who was on point ducks back into an alcove while Rubin and Engineer Yates silence it.

Entering the last of the rooms a final Security bot activates, as the door opens Rubin takes a hit and is knocked out, luckily Digby Smith is close by and revives him, Gunner Chapple blows the bot to bits, a search finds the Chirpers who are well but scared, no sign of Gnetus who seems to have escaped.

Scene 5

Arrive at Fiddes, a small port where we pick up our submarine

Several possible locations are travelled to including an old shipwreck

and an abandoned whaling station

before we finally discover the Research Station

Access is under the ice at a submarine serviced supply module, the crew dock and get into the central lift shaft..

Scene 4

The shipping agent is in a town called Dalu

The agent is reluctant to give any information up but after some threats and a bribe he eventually gives up the name and location of a submarine captain who trades exclusively in the Southern Ocean.


Rubin then gets a taxi back to the airport where he plans to fly back to Garner and gather the rest of the crew, get some armour and weapons off the ship and then go to Fiddes, the port where the sub captain can be found.

Rubin is shot at by a lone gunman, luckily he still has his firearm and manages to wound the attacker, he is arrested but later released as witnesses confirm it was self defence but the gun is confiscated and he pays a fine for having an un-authorised firearm

Scene 3

The next step is to find out all they can about the research station, after several days of asking around nothing has been learned, then Rubin is contacted by a PI

He introduces himself as Harry Walgren, he has a lead if the price is right, fees are negotiated and a meeting is set up with a warship captain who has travelled the Southern Oceans extensively.

The meeting goes ahead but the Captain will not part with any usefull information, after the meeting Rubin and Harry are walking back to the rail station when they are confronted by some thugs

Failing to frighten them off with some tough talk a fight breaks out, Harry is badly hurt but Rubin manages to knock one assailant out and the other two run off.
A search gets a handgun and a business card for a shipping agent.Harry is taken the the local hospital.

Scene 2

The next step is to find out all about Chirpers so the crew go to the local University to find out what they can.

They find out that the Chirpers are planetwide and classed as semi-intelligent but not aggressive, a directive is in place to round them all up and settle them on Avios.

Scene 1

The crew decide to play it safe and contact local authorities to check legality of Research operation, they get reffered to various departments but eventually a sympathiser gets them  the info

Hilary Bent shows the crew a report that sanctions the research but it is classified information, the government allowed the building of the station in exchange for technological advancements, the nature of the stations work is rumoured to be Psionics - which is frowned upon within the Imperium.

The story begins

A small winged reptilian creature approaches the crew and nervously tells its story……

Several months ago the creature who indtroduces himself as Chiree was living on the continent of Avios (it’s the uninhabited one), several trucks arrived and rounded the villagers up and drove them to the coast where they were put on a ship.

Several days later they rendezvoused with a submarine to which they were transferred, after a few more days they docked at the research station, there were very few humans apart from the human in charge, Gnetus, the experiments started soon after.

Chiree managed to escape by stowing away on a re-supply submarine, he is looking to persuade anyone he can find to help rescue the other Chirpers from the research station.

The crew are persuadedand decide to help .

Background

The crew of the Krait are on the homeward leg of Rubins last trip before mustering out, at present they are on Vanenjen awaiting a passenger who will arrive in a few days.

Vanenjen is classified as a Rich word, an ex-Navy dockyard on a nearby satellite sells unrefined fuel but streamlined craft are able to top up their tanks planetside as the surface is 62% water (although 1/3 is ice).
There are four major continents, three of which are populated by humans while the fourth Avios is inhabited by the semi-intelligent indiginous Chirpers.
World tech level is that of 1930s Earth.

With time to kill everyone has found a good pub in Garner, the capitol city of Teledu, Vanenjens largest continent and are settled in for the afternoon.

The main topic of conversation is what Rubin will do once he is out, Elaine Yates has decided to leave the service as well and has asked if she could join his new ship, a 100t Scout/Courier that he will receive as a mustering out bonus.

This is the first instalment of what will hopefully be an ongoing diary/blog of the adventures of Imperial Scout Rubin Rubex.

Here is Rubins ship the ISS Krait,an S class 100 tonne vessel, my next post will introduce the crew and set the scene for the adventure.
